Blue Dragonfly Spiritual Meaning

Like butterflies, dragonflies undergo a miraculous metamorphosis in their short lifetimes. To begin, they are born on the water. And they exist in their larval stage for months or even years before they molt. Once they molt, they transform into a beautiful flying insect with magical iridescent wings. So, on a spiritual level, dragonfly symbolism is about self-realization, spiritual growth, and transformation.

The blue dragonfly, in particular, has sacred meanings for many. Here are some examples of what seeing a blue dragonfly can mean on a spiritual level:

1. One of your angels is present.

For those who believe, dragonflies are messengers for angels because they are especially receptive to divine energy working through them. So, seeing a blue dragonfly can mean that the angel of someone you love is present.

Blue is the color of serenity and peace. So, if a blue dragonfly visits you or lands nearby, view it as a positive omen that your loved one is at peace.

In addition, blue symbolizes friendship, as in a “true blue” friend. So, it a blue dragonfly lands nearby, it can be a sign that the angel of a friend, including a pet, who has passed is sending a message of greeting. They are validating for you that your friendship endures.

2. Maintain an open mind and heart.

Blue dragonfly symbolism also includes the opportunity for spiritual growth. To grow spiritually, you must maintain an open mind and heart. Be receptive to learning about spirituality and expanding your consciousness. This can come from different teachers or sources of information. After all, blue is also the color of intellect.

A blue dragonfly, notably one who is light blue or turquoise in hue, is the color associated with your throat chakra. Your throat chakra rules your ability to connect, communicate, and express yourself. So, one of the paths to spiritual growth is communication and connecting with others.

3. Tune into your intuition.

In addition to your fifth chakra, your sixth chakra is also represented by the color blue. In this case, it’s indigo. Your sixth chakra is also called your third eye chakra. Your third eye is how you perceive spiritual information.

So, if you notice an indigo or dark blue dragonfly, it can be a sign that psychic awareness is expanding, so pay attention to your intuition.

4. Believe in miracles.

Dragonflies are associated with fairies because they have the same kings of wings! So, seeing a dragonfly can be like a nod from your angels that it’s ok to believe in magic. As the author Roald Dahl said, ā€œThose who donā€™t believe in magic will never find it.ā€

The color blue is also the color of the sky, as in: “The sky’s the limit!”

In other words, seeing a blue dragonfly is a reminder that your only true limits are the limits of your imagination. Believe that the Universe is wise and loving and that it’s working in our favor.

5. You are going through a spiritual transformation.

The color blue is associated with water, which is a symbol of cleansing and transformation. Like a lotus flower, the blue dragonfly symbolizes transformation because they are born in the water and they undergo a metamorphosis.

So, seeing a blue dragonfly is a reminder of your own spiritual transformation. No matter what you have gone through in life, or what you are going through now, you have the opportunity for renewal, which will lead to greater spiritual growth.

A Personal Story About Blue Dragonflies

Blue Dragonfly at Lake

Before we move on to the next section of this post, I wanted to share a personal story about my own relationship with blue dragonflies.

When my previous dog, Roo, passed away suddenly, I was devastated. I was living temporarily in Sonoma County here in California and there was a lake where I used to walk with her. This was in 2020 during the pandemic. After Roo died, I couldnā€™t bring myself to go to this lake. I was too devastated.

But craving nature, after a couple of weeks, I finally forced myself to go back to the lake. It was early morning and I was standing on the edge of this lake crying and looking out at the mist coming off the water. Then, all of a sudden, a bunch of beautiful blue dragonflies appeared, darting back and forth at the lake’s edge. I had never seen blue dragonflies like them on the lake. But what was clear is that I felt Roo’s presence. I just knew she was there with me and it made me happy.

I wondered at the color blue though. Roo was part red heeler, so she had a red merle coat. I often associated her with fiery red. However, she wore a blue collar.

After that morning, I was able to go to the lake without feeling so sad. Then, one morning, I didn’t see any blue dragonflies. My heartache returned. But I told myself, ‘Don’t test your angels!’ Then, I got in my car. And as I started to drive away, a big blue dragonfly landed on my windshield right at eye level!

It was only later, when doing my research for UniGuide, that I remembered that blue symbolizes friendship. Roo was my best friend, and I was hers. Ever since then, blue dragonflies appear in my life at special moments and I know that Roo is with me.

Blue Dragonfly Meaning in Love and Relationships

Here are some examples of what a blue dragonfly appearing in your life can mean regarding love and relationships:

6. Fine tune your communication skills.

As mentioned earlier, blue dragonflies are associated with your throat chakra, which governs communication and how you express yourself. So, in relationship matters, seeing a blue dragonfly can be a reminder of how important good communication is in healthy relationships.

Dragonflies are experts at maneuverability. So, a blue dragonfly symbolizes using finesse in how you talk to others. Like a dragonfly’s wings, some things in life are delicate! So, use gentleness and tact when you communicate.

In addition to how you interact in one-on-one relationships, your light blue chakra reflects how you present yourself to the world. So, if you see a blue dragonfly, it can be like a nudge from your angles to think about the messages that you’re putting forth in the world.

Even without speaking, you are constantly communicating to others. This may be in how you carry yourself, what you post on social media, whether you greet people with warmth or judgement, or even your lack of communication. Your blue dragonfly is saying – express yourself in a way that reflects the highest version of yourself.

7. Seize the day.

Dragonflies live for only a short period of time, so they remind us that time is precious. In other words, seize the day!

If there is someone you have a crush on whom you’d like to get to know better, don’t let shyness or insecurity hold you back. Take this opportunity to make a new connection.

Similarly, if you have recently gone through a breakup or a rejection and you’re nursing a broken heart, the blue dragonly says – Don’t wallow! If the blue dragonfly stayed in their larval stage, they would never blossom into the exquisite flying beings that we all love to see.

Dragonflies are known for their miraculous maneuverability skills and they’re very fast flyers. So, seeing a blue dragonfly can also be a reminder to be spontaneous. If you are in an established bond, remember to keep things fresh by doing things that are “out of the blue” and fun.

8. Nurture relationships where you expand each other’s horizons.

As they are the color of the sky, blue dragonflies symbolize the great blue yonder ā€“ dreaming big and exploring your potential. So, when it comes to relationships, the blue dragonfly can a sign to look for the types of relationships that expand your horizons.

Or if you’re in an established romantic bond or even a platonic partnership, be sure that you continue to explore ways to help each other grow and for the relationship to evolve. After all, dragonflies don’t sit still. They move!

9. Learn to be forgiving of yourself and others.

When it comes to love and relationships, blue dragonfly symbolism also includes the idea of forgiveness. The color blue represents friendship and loyalty, and sometimes we have to get over being ā€œrightā€ about an issue in order to preserve a relationship.

This doesnā€™t meaning going against your own integrity. But it can mean letting go of pain, anger, or resentment.

Forgiving is not the same word as forgetting, of course. After all, blue dragonfly symbolism also includes the idea of knowledge and wisdom. So, you can acknowledge the lessons you learned from a relationship, and still forgive.

As I wrote about in my post on 1212 angel number meaning regarding twin flame relationships, if we don’t learn our karmic lessons in relationships, we are doomed to keep repeating them.

The blue dragonfly is all about learning and then letting go. When you forgive, you won’t be bogged down. Dragonflies embody the idea of lightness of being.

10. Be true to yourself.

One of the most wonderful aspects of relationships is that they can transform our lives for the better. They help us to grow and to become the fullest expression of ourselves.

The blue dragonfly is a symbol of transformation. At the same time, they are also symbols of truth and authenticity.

The blue dragonfly says, Above all, be true to yourself. It a relationship inspires you to be a better version of yourself, then lean into it. But if it’s changing you in ways that have a negative effect, be like a dragonfly and speed away!

16. Envision vitality.

Blue is a visionary color that’s linked to the intellect and imagination. Thus, blue dragonflies represent the practice of visualization. Practicing visualization techniques can help every area of your life, including your health and vitality.
