So, when Mercury passes Earth in its orbit, which happens 3 ā 4 times per year, itās another optical illusion where it appears to us like itās going backwards.3 Astrologers say this period of Mercuryās movement (the āretrogradeā) has an impact on us.
According to astrologers, periods when Mercury is in retrograde are good times to review, renew, and re-do things vs. starting something new. They also say these periods can be a disruptive for technology and commerce. Thus, Geminiās ruling planet is known for being a bit of a trickster, just as the zodiac sign is.
It should be noted that, in addition to the quick-witted god and the planet by the same name, Mercury is the name of a metallic element ā the one used in thermometers and other pressure gauges.
