Kristen M. Stanton is the founder of UniGuide, a trusted, open access platform dedicated to nature and animal lovers, spiritual seekers, and mythology and folklore enthusiasts. Kristen has personally researched and written over 200 articles in the UniGuide blog, drawing on a lifetime of curiosity about the natural world, other dimensions, ancient wisdom, and the mysterious aspects of existence.
A Lifelong Connection to Nature and Spirit
Kristen’s connection to animals, nature, and the unseen world began in childhood. Growing up in Houston, Texas, her family had a multitude of pets, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, and fish, and she spent her free time playing outside with toads, frogs, turtles, and the various insects she found in the bayou.
From an early age, she also had what she describes as intuitive, or some would say psychic, experiences. She would tell her mother about things she sensed were going to happen, or offer explanations for why certain events unfolded the way they did — and her mother would often find confirmation in the news shortly after.
These experiences made Kristen feel that the world was far more layered and interconnected than what we can see on the surface. That sense of wonder has never left her, and it’s the heartbeat of everything on UniGuide.
Academic Background and Environmental Activism
In college, Kristen was a double major in English and geography, with a focus on environmental studies — a combination that has shaped the content she creates for UniGuide.
During her college years, she especially enjoyed her literature and Native American Studies coursework. She also studied marine biology, and was an intern for a marine mammal communication project. Her love for animals moved from academic to hands-on when she volunteered for the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California, an organization she continues to support today.
Her environmental activism includes canvassing for Greenpeace, completing an internship with the Earth Island Institute, participating in protests against the logging of old-growth forests in Northern California, and raising funds for Climbing for Kids, a charity that brings at-risk youth into the wilderness to develop leadership and community skills.
Later, at the suggestion of her younger brother, Patrick, Kristen went on to earn her MBA, with the goal of applying strategic and analytical thinking to the work she cared about most. Her environmental work and business experience led her to become a founding member of and the marketing and grants chair for the Cleantech Open, a nonprofit accelerator for clean technology startups. Kristen has spent much of her career as a marketing consultant in the tech industry, experience that now informs how she builds and grows UniGuide as a platform.
Research Philosophy: An Endlessly Curious Student of the Universe
Kristen describes herself as a spiritually curious student of the Universe. She believes we can learn from all the world’s religions as well as cultural mythology, folklore, and ancient nature wisdom — all of which help to illuminate our spiritual paths here on Earth.
Her research draws on wide reading across mythology, folklore, and spiritual philosophy. She has been particularly influenced by the work of Joseph Campbell, whose exploration of the Hero’s Journey and cross-cultural mythological patterns opened up new ways of understanding human experience as well as Carl Jung, whose framework of archetypes and the collective unconscious resonates deeply with the symbolic work she does on UniGuide. Kristen was also influenced by the work of Rachel Carson, a fellow nature enthusiast.
Kristen approaches these topics not as a dogmatist but as a continuously curious person who believes that wonder and discernment can coexist — and that the goal of spiritual exploration is not to arrive at certainty, but to deepen one’s connection to life, nature, meaning, and purpose.
UniGuide: Personal Research, Personally Written
On UniGuide, when you read about the symbolism of a hawk, the mythology of the Phoenix, or the meaning of angel number 1111, you are reading the result of Kristen’s own research, reflection, and genuine curiosity about the subject.
Over 200 articles and counting, UniGuide covers animal symbolism and spirit animals, mythology and folklore, divination, sacred geometry, angel numbers, spiritual wellness, holistic healing, and soulful experiences.
Kristen is also focused on the role that AI will play in spiritual discovery. Particularly, she wants UniGuide to play a role helping people explore meaning in more personalized and interactive ways, and how it can help bring people together and exist harmoniously with the irreplaceable value of in-person community and lived experiences as they become increasingly important.
Giving Back
Kristen donates 10% of UniGuide’s profits to animal welfare, wildlife conservation, and environmental protection organizations. Recent recipients include the Center for Biological Diversity and the Marine Mammal Center — organizations that carry deep personal meaning for her.
