Kristen DeAngelis

Kristen DeAngelis is the associate professor of microbiology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her work focuses on understanding microbes, both from individual physiological perspectives and broad ecological perspectives, as microbes embody the vast diversity of life on Earth and are major drivers of the Earth’s biogeochemical cycles. Specifically, she studies the effects that climate change has on soil microbial communities, and applies those results towards improvement of next-generation biofuels. She also studies soil carbon dynamics, with a focus on microbial carbon storage and greenhouse gas emissions in the rhizosphere and within the context of plant-microbial interactions.
