I’m really excited about this news today from Etsy. They just announced that they will offset 100% of the carbon emissions from shipping when their vendors ship products to buyers – that’s people like you and me!
On UniGuide, I promote a ton of eco-friendly and vegan products by Etsy artisans. I’ve always thought about the carbon footprint of the products that get shipped, especially from faraway places. So, this news is a great move and a welcome relief.
Here’s a video about the program:
Etsy will automatically purchase verified emissions reductions, or carbon offsets, through their partner 3Degrees when Etsy vendors ship products to customers. 3Degrees works with businesses, other organizations, and even consumers to incorporate clean energy and greenhouse gas reduction strategies into their operations and daily lives.
Through 3Degress, Etsy’s offsets will direct money to support environmental projects, such as protecting forests, sponsoring wind and solar farms, and developing greener methods for producing automotive parts.
Etsy is the first major online retailer to offset 100% of carbon emissions from shipping. Let’s hope others follow suit. (That included you, Mighty Amazon!)
