If you’re looking for a new case or sleeve for your iPad, tablet, or Kindle, it’s a great opportunity to buy something that is made from superior materials, which are kinder to the planet, animals, and the workers making it. After I wrote about the innovative eco-friendly and vegan phone cases in my post “11 Sustainable Cell Phone Cases from Inspiring Ecopreneurs,” I knew a post about tablet cases was in short order.

As with phone cases, here’s what to look for in an eco-friendly tablet case or sleeve:

  • Made from natural, sustainable, and biodegradable materials, such as bamboo, cork, or sustainably harvested wood
  • Made of bio-plastic, recycled plastic, or other recycled and upcycled materials, such as tires and neoprene
  • Made of toxic-free materials
  • Not made of animal skin – that’s leather or suede from cows, pigs, crocodiles, snakes, or any other creature that will suffer
  • Made by companies that are taking efforts to lessen their environmental footprint and which take corporate social responsibility seriously

And without further ado, here they are!

Reveal is one of my favorite innovative companies because of the variety of products they make from sustainable materials, including cork and bamboo. And in partnership with the non-profit American Forests, Reveal plants a tree for every product they sell from their Nature Collection. At this point, they’ve planted over 50 million trees on behalf of their customers.

Earth-Friendly Neoprene iPad, Tablet, and Laptop Sleeves by GreenSmart

GreenSmart offers a range of laptop and tablet computer cases made with its “Neogreene” material, a better alternative to traditional neoprene. Neogreene is considered a non-toxic material because it doesn’t contain phthalates, volatile organic compounds (VOCs, which are carbon-based chemicals that easily evaporate into the atmosphere), chlorine, or metals. It also requires less energy and petroleum to produce. In addition, Neogreene sleeves are constructed with water-based adhesives vs. chemical-heavy solvent-based adhesives. It’s definitely worth checking out their variety of products in their store on Amazon.
